Default Better BIAB sounds for free!

Just a quick note for anyone wanting to get improved sounds for free from BIAB. The info is in the thread 'Let's talk about DXi's', posted by me. I thought I'd put a reference to it here because not everyone is interested in DXi's, and so might miss this BIAB info.

I got everything working well yesterday. A good way to sum up the new sounds would be "MUCH less irritating" than standard computer midi sounds.

I used "Fluid" soundfonts, but there are a lot of others on the net to try. The "Fluid" soundfonts have the same names as the standard computer midi instruments, and therefore they are loaded automatically! "Fluid" is a single file of 68MB or so. This needs to be decompressed, by a programme called "sfArk"....also free.

The thing about soundfonts is that you can make your own! Info is out there!

My BIAB is hooked into the Edirol synth, not sure if that came with BIAB because I already had that synth before I had BIAB. However BIAB users manual does mention that synth.

For backing tracks to practice to I really like the sounds.

But let's not forget speakers. I run my PC through this amp:

Alesis RA150 | Sweetwater.com

and these speakers:

Alesis Monitor1 MkII | Sweetwater.com

Having a good amp and speakers is going to have a big impact on your sound.

Actually, YOU would be surprized to find out how bad the default Edirol supplied synth is. It's terrible.

I bought a pair of considerably better Edirol synths, the Superquartet HQ and the HyperCanvas HQ. By today's standards, they even stink.

I'd highly recommend either downloading the NI KORE for free, or picking up NI's Bandstand for $99. Vastly superior sound to the Edirol synths.

I used Reason for sounds and it works great! The drums and piano are a huge improvement from the Edirol Sound Canvas sounds. Now I'm getting into the RealTracks and trying to get that to sound good.
