Help question about entering in Band in a Box

So,
My guitar teacher gave me an A minor progression to work with using the harmonic minor scale. The first chord is an "A minor 7 add 9". I can get B in a B to take an Am9, but can't seem to figure how to put in the descibed "A m7 add9". I am sure there's a way and I'm also sure I'll probably feel even dumber once I see it....

I have an email in to him, but don't know when he'll get to it.

Help? Anyone?

I think it's just the way he wrote the chord. It's the A m7 barre chord on the 5th fret with the 9th played on the 9th fret of the D string (b note). I tried to be literal with b in a b and it doesn't like that... Thanks!

edit- Technically, I think the chord loses the 7th, as it's neither played on the B string or the D string in this fingering. Hmmmm?

You need the 7th or else you're just going to get an Am triad. You don't need the 5th, and you can also (optionally) get rid of the root.

For Band in a Box, just type in "am9". That will give you an Am7 add 9 chord. BTW it's usually just called Am9.

What is the exact fingering he's giving you?

Since that chord doesn't have a 7th, it's an Amadd9. Enter that into BIAB and see if it will take it, I think it does.

If you have the most recent version of BIAB, there is a chord building button (look for the button with musical notes and a hammer). When you click it, a box opens with a series of radio buttons. In the first section, you click on the radio button for the root note. To the right of that, there is a section to enter the chord type. The most common ones are there with a radio button, but to the lower right, there is a "Other" radio button that has a drop doen menu with every chord type you could possibly imagine.

I have never used previous versions of BIAB, so I don't know if they are the same.

Thank you all. I tried using the chord builder and the "add9" part isn't there that I found, or wouldn't work with "m7" already entered.
I just got in from a 12 hour 600 mile run on my "day job". Good news is I only work about an hour and a half tomorrow and only drive about 40 miles :-)
edit-Point being, I may not get back into band in a box till tomorrow....

Wow, first they make you run 600 miles, then you have to drive 40? Man.
