Check This Out! Transcribing software

Just wanted to give my endorsement to a terrific piece of software: Transcribe. There's a youtube video of Earl Klugh playing solo live in a radio station a beautiful arrangement of Bluesette which he then apparently effortlessly intersperses improvisational single note and double-stop lines while he simultaneously keeps a base line going and accompanies himself with chord fragments. With this amazing software one can slow down, isolate and loop a segment of *both* the audio and the video without changing pitch. Now, finally, I can figure out the magic. Here are links to the video and the software:

I 100% agree. I use it very often. This is a terrific tool and Pat Metheny uses it, as described somewhere on the related web site. The most complex piece of music I transcribed with it was Tom Jobim and Sting version of Insensatez, which contains 2 singers (Tom and Sting), piano (Tom), bass, drums, choirs, flute, violins.

A wonderful feature of the latest version is the piano roll view of a loaded piece of music, since it provides both pitch and duration information for the notes.

Note recognition is performed by some combination of spectral analysis algorithms and empirical treatment. Of course, given the state of the art for audio analysis and audio processing, this is not yet 100% perfect. For instance, percussive sounds lead to the appearance of a cloud of MIDI notes. But when there are a few instruments it works very well.

It's a pity that there is no even simple tutorial on the steps to transcribe a piece of music. I wrote a short one, unfortunately in French. here attached. you can always use Google Translate to get an idea of what's in there.

I use it every day - well worth the price.
