| | MuseScore - Liking It Downloaded it a couple of nights ago. Pretty nice especially since it's free. Does lead sheets with ease.
Before I get too wrapped up in it, any experienced users with gripes? Is there a better free music comp program out there? |

| | I've tried several of the lesser Finale products, the lesser and top of the line Sibelius, GuitarPro, TuxGuitar and a couple others I can't remember.
Other than the top of the line Sibelius it's the best I've tried (I never tried the top of the line Finale, that's probably real good too). But the top of the line Sibelius and Finale are real expensive.
I think MuseScore is great. It would be nice if it did tab and chord diagrams (which they say will be included on the next version), but I can certainly live without that.
BTW, MuseScore seems to be modeled after Sibelius.
And it's free! |

Something that seems strange though, is how it won't let me tie notes of differing time vals.
Like for instance, if I try to tie a half to an 8th. It wont let me. It kills my 8th and makes it and the former half into some crazy conglomeration of 8th doubles and triplets?
I looked up the dilemma online and the answer was to use a slur instead of a tie. I did that, but the note at the end of the slur sounded out as if it wasn't tied.
Have you run into this fep? What did you do? |

Have you run into this fep? What did you do? | I was away from home earlier this year and using musescore on my laptop. Now that I'm back at home I'm using Sibelius.
I vaguely remeber some difficulty placing slurs where I wanted them but don't remember that well.
I just tried to duplicate your issue with a 1/2 note tied to an 1/8th note and work just fine:
If you want to describe your issue in more detail I'll like to try to duplicate the problem. |

If you want to describe your issue in more detail I'll like to try to duplicate the problem. | Well you could duplicate the problem by having your computer play the score. In the example you posted you've got a half note to eighth note slur. Visually, it may as well be a tie, because both notes are pitched equally.
But when the computer plays it, it won't interpret a tie, and it will play the notes separately.
This is no big deal I suppose if you're using MuseScore to develop sheets to hand out to players. But I was kind of hoping to be able to put a melody down (with ties) and harmonize lines to the computer playback on my guitar. And then add the harmonies I develop as additional voices in the score. |

| | That is a tie and it is interpreted as a tie on playback, it only plays one note on playback.
What makes you think it's a slur? |

| | I'm liking Musescore. Now, to get back into editing Sounfonts. Musescore recommends a 30MB Soundfont to replace the small one it comes with. It sounds pretty good. |

| | pretty great. but with some kinks. I'm DEEP in on a big project and it has a few annoying things. like how articulations get all jacked if you move things (transpose) or just get saved funny. also, lacks a few key jazz type articulations, and a few guitar things (bends)...
but again, for free its hard to beat. may take a little longer for some things, but if you stick with it, you end up with a nice looking part.
