Default Noob Question BIAB

First, I have zero experience recording with a computer. If I get BIAB with real band can I record, or will I need reaper or other program for recording?
Also will I need amplitude or similiar software for tone? Will it sound like poop without amp software?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I use BIAB and Real Band for recording/mixing/modifying tracks without additional software. I had a latency issue (echo due to slow analog/digital conversion), but I solved the problem by getting a audio interface.
Cheers, Jeff

I was running the line out of my amp directly into my computer (letting the computer sound card do the anolog/digital conversion)--this worked poorly on my computer! I bought a Cakewalk UA-1G audio interface and it works fine. You can run the guitar directly through it into the computer. I mic my amp through the UA-1G, just because I prefer the sound. Sorry for the confusion, as I'm a computer recording noob myself!
The M-Audio interfaces are supposed to be real good, but I haven't tried one with BIAB. Perhaps someone who uses one will chime in.

as for interfaces i recommend line 6 ux 1 or ux 2, which will then allow you to record your tone with a mic or to use the amp software that it comes with and there are a ton of different sounds that can be made. there is also some recording and drum software that comes with it but i have never used b/c i use garage band instead and it is very easy to use

I like the following:
1) create a backing track with BiaB
2) store it as audio file to disk. You can either save the entire mix or the individual instruments (which i prefer)
3) import that into Garageband
4) use an audio interface or a microphone to record your guitar. There are many audio interfaces that plug into your usb port and take your guitar signal as input. The Garageband sounds are passable in my opinion but a properly miced amp just sounds more lifely. Of course, you can also use the lineout of your amp to plug into the audio interface.

Enjoy!
Frank
