| | | Garageband for Ipad 2 Help ????? Just purchased an iRig and was loving it for a day. I had 4 songs on my iPad 2 and everything worked fine. So I imported a track into GB, and tried to play over it and record, but everytime I did so....it would just stop recording in the middle, sometimes the beginning. So I talked to Support, and one guy told me to uninstall GB, but i didn't wanna lose my 4 songs, so he said I could just back them up by sending them to iTunes and choosing the GarageBand file option, resulting in a .band file. So I saved all 4 songs to my desktop. My computer is a Windows Vista machine :l .... so i deleted GB and reinstalled, and now I am unable to drag the .band files over because they show up as folders and contains subfolders and arent compressed like Mac would read them. And my recording to an imported track problem still persists. I have spend all day messing with this and am beyond pissed off. At this point im willing to just try another program for recording with imported tracks, but I just want to restore my 4 songs.....If anyone has any input, advice, or suggestions, i'm all ears...Apple support was useless and I went progressively through 4 different people and still nothing was solved, no answers. I have tried archiving the song folder.band and then sending it to my email on my ipad 2, but it doesn't offer any option to open in garage band since its a .zip. Yesterday I was elated at using GB lol, and today I am beyond pissed off that i listened to that idiot from Apple and uninstalled and backed up my songs that I am not able to restore. Once again any help GREATLY appreciated..... |

| | Do your 4 songs still show up in the File Sharing area in iTunes when you select GarageBand? If they do, you should be able to import them back into GB for iPad.
Tap "My Songs", then tap the button with the arrow pointing down (for download, I guess). A list pops up that should show all the songs in the File Sharing area in iTunes on your PC. You can select the ones you want to import.
I haven't tried this on a Windows PC, but the way iTunes works should be the same as on a Mac. Let me know if this works. GarageBand is a really fun app, so hang in there, you should be able to get it to do what you want.
Good luck! |

| | There's no need to remove them from the File Sharing list in iTunes because you're reinstalling GB. Can't you select GarageBand, then drag the .band "folder" into the list? Or click the Add button and browse to where they're located, and add them that way? If you can, they'll show up in GB on the iPad. If not, I hope your friend with the Mac can help. |

If you plan on recording more especially using G B, I suggest the next investment be with a mac and loose the pc. An ipad is fun and we have one at home, but it is not going to give the storage space, or the other capabilities that a computer will, and storing things in itunes will cause you use up your storage space the fastest. |

+1
That has certainly been my experience - there's a reason why Macs are generally more expensive computers, which is that they are better than Windows machines at nearly everything. They're worth the extra cash.

| | Yah, if you want to work with Logic Studio Pro, it only works on a Mac. After the infamous "Service Pack 2" debacle, I switched and never looked back. All my Macs since then have worked and worked and continue to work, even if I gave an old Powerbook G4 away.
All musicians should be using Macs! Ten times less hassles, no viruses, elegant to use. |

| | I think when you look at all the stuff that is standard on macs and that you dont have to pay for spy ware or Norton are any of that stuff, not to mention the better customer service, that a mac is not actually that much more. If you would equip a pc with what is on a mac the prices would then start to level out. And yes I agree NSJ, any person using any kind of art (visual or audio) on a computer should consider an apple. |

Thanks. | I lay down some guitar for rhythm, often with bass, and some drums from the drum machine, then I loop them and play over them. It is not that hard to do. I am not sure if there are backing tracks to use I have never tried but I will look into it I plan on recording some later tonight. |

There is this thing on garageband called magic garageband;
Jamming with Magic GarageBand
GarageBand can automatically create a song using the Magic GarageBand feature. When you create a Magic GarageBand song, you specify the genre (style) of music and the instruments in the song. You can preview the entire song or a snippet, and then have GarageBand create a song with the genre and instruments you chose.
I dont know how much control you have though with changes and keys. Do you have anyway of recording your guitar onto garageband, do you have a guitar interface? |

| | sorry guess I missed that the title was help for garageband on my ipad not help on my pc, no on was forcing anything down anyones throats, just remarks made on a thread started about an apple product, move on and dont read if you dont want
what anyone on here has said about mac is no different from what you just said about your pc
as for another thing to use a term as "fag" is not hilarious, it is terminology used in a negative context, and it leads me to believe that the user of that term would then have no issues with using other racial demeaning terms as well
so if you actually believe in what you said when you said "we all like what we like," then dont go on a thread and complain about others talking about what they like

| When I see stuff like this posted on a public forum, i'm lead to believe some people will take it for granted. I strongly think the statement is false, hence my post, which should have been taken with a grain of salt.
and no, I don't work for Bill, nor am I a racist, and I do have a few homosexual friends. I don't plan on apologizing either but I do have this to say:
Mac vs PC wars are gay

| | I'm not the one who needs to chill out on this thread, all the aggression I see here is coming from guitarguy and you. I simply stated an opinion based on several years of using both Macs and PCs, I'm not at war with anyone.

You don't have to be rich to have manners. I associate the art of jazz, and the people who practise it, with a level of class that is far higher than the words you write. (See Mr. B's "What Gets Moderated" post.) For me this has nothing to do with religion. That's not my concern. There are so many great members here who contribute positive and valuable ideas here. Don't trash it. Listen and learn.
