Headstrong Lil King w/ Weber 10A125
Royer 121 into Chandler Ltd. Germ Mic Pre (on amp)

VERY nice! You've obviously studied what gear would produce a good recording, what guitar would work for that, and a good arrangement for the song. I really like the clarity of the sound - it's not muffled like a lot of humbucker type jazz guitar work. No criticism here.

It woud be interesting to hear your setup with A COMBO, atl east with bass and drums added - have you done anything like that?

Default When Sunny Gets blue

Very nice and tasty version of "When Sunny Gets Blue", Mattymel! This song has always been my favorite chord melody song. I don't know much about recording but the sound you get seems to be quite good to me. I think you are "good to go" with your current recording technique. I went to your website and listened to some more of your music. It is all very nice but I really Liked your version of Billy Joels' " Just The Way You Are". Your tone is warm and excellent to listen to.

best wishes,
wiz

wow. thanks.
all the old solo tunes on the website were with my old guitar, a 62' Epi Sorrento that i put Lollar P90s in. it got a good tone, but was hard to get as "round" as i wanted it.

i really think that any guitarist serious about recording should save up for a Royer 121. after using 57s and a few other guitar "mics", the first time i put the Royer on an amp....the sky opened.

Hi,
Guitar sounds great. For me something like mixed Joe Pass and Kurt Rosenwinkel sound. Joe pass guitar with some kurt style. Any inspiration from Kurt?

Very nice indeed. Beautiful sound, fine playing - and of course a beautiful song, one of my favorites for many years. You may be familiar with Sarah Vaughans version of it on "Sarah +2" (with Barney Kessel on guitar).

lovely recording and playing. your tone sounds great, it sounds like you are close mic'ing the amp which gives a nice and intimate feel but you might want to try mixing in a second mic, placed further from the amp to give more ambience and depth to the sound. of course, the milage in this depends largly on the room you are recording in and your choice of microphone.

do you happen to have a transcription of that arrangement by any chance?
