Default Some questions on Tal Farlow

His music and tone is a big inspiration for me. I have not seen much of the footage of him playing though. I didn't realise that he was such a 'thumb over the top' man.

YouTube - Tal Farlow - The Legendary Guitar of Tal Farlow DVD

Has anybody got the hotlicks dvd featured here? I am thinking of getting it, but I won't playing with the thumb over the top...

My other question concerns his sound - what sort of amp did he generally use? My guess on setting would be amp volume up high and on-guitar volume down low.

Do the Tal Farlow gibsons have a laminate or carved top?

NL

Tal Farlow was awesome.

There's videos of him on youtube.

Pat Martino plays with his thumb over the top all the time too.

Maybe they know something?

I had a 2000 Tal Farlow for a year, wonderful guitar, all lam. Tal had pretty large hands, though Pat certainly does not. I have big hands, but hate the thumb hanging thing. Each to his own.
