| | Thanks for sharing that. I'm actually "hot and cold" when it comes to Frisell (I know, I know, he's amazing -- I just don't always connect with his vibe); I thought this was fun, though.

| | Thaks, Bflat. Great video! Can't get used to seeing Bill without a Tele!
Looks like he modified that Strat. Just two knobs and a plug. Probably volume + one tone, I guess?
Me, I'd follow Frisell like the pied piper pretty much anywhere. I'm hoping--longshot--to see him in Tokyo in a few weeks!

| | Great stuff. I like his NPR Lennon better than the actual cd. Weird.

| | Am I the only one having trouble getting the video to play?

| | Really nice that you can download the audio as well. Love these 'tiny desk' concerts! |

| | You know, I love Bill's old stuff, but I really love his new stuff as well. Beautiful Dreamers is a must have cd in my opinion. The Lennon cd is great for what it is. Watching him in this performance shows that. I got to see him a couple of months back. He is truly one of the most musical guitarist in my humble opinion.
Truth be told, he's probably my favorite guitarist. |

| | Frisell I read a thing on Twitter about Floratone (I&II) projects in which Frisell and a drummer recorded some free improvisation, then turned the tapes over to 2 producers unedited. The producers looped and sampled the tracks to make song structures, then got Frisell back in to add guitar parts and write parts for horn and string players, which were then overdubbed. It may not be everyone's cup of tea , but I find the music compelling. It's a cool way of using improvising as a basis for composition. |

I'm going to see Frisell with Matt Chamberlain at the end of the month. Really looking forward to it! |

| | I'm with you, Jazzpunk. The first Floratone CD has become one of my favorite Frisell recordings. Maybe second to only Good Dog, Happy Man. Which seems funny to me, in that it is not a typical BF recording.
I have Floratone II as well, but have spun it only a couple of times. It hasn't grabbed my ear quite as hard as the first one. At least yet.
I've got tickets to The Mint show too! I hope I can get back to LA in time to actually be there! (If not, I'll give the tickets away here on the forum.) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
