Default John Scofield's "Hollowbody Band" featuring Rosenwinkel and Bernstein

Just read this bit of news on Kurt Rosenwinkel's site:

"In the summer of 2012 Kurt will join John Scofield‘s new “Hollowbody Band” (alongside Peter Bernstein, Ben Street & Bill Stewart) project for what’s projected to be a tour of Europe."

I am really looking forward to hearing this project. Sounds like it could be very cool!

Man I love all those players but I am a bit wary of all star guitar bands. I have heard Bernstein and Rosenwinkel play together and I thought their styles where a bit incompatible. But it would be great to hear Scofield play a jazz box and all those players are heroes of mine.

i was wondering when the next guitar trio (or in this case quartet) would get together. it's a proven economic engine.

i'm pretty sure that McLaughlin got Paco and Larry (then Al) together first. then Barney, Herb, and Charlie did "Great Guitars". I attended concerts by both trios, they were very popular and did well. then the 3 tenors did a similar thing - big bucks ensued. (edit - Great Guitars came first. One album had Mundell Lowe instead of Barney and Larry Coryell as "special guest", probably to modernize things a bit).

the thing is, it helps to have at least one "star" in the group. that would seem to be Scofield in this case. it probably won't be nearly as sucessful as the above mentioned trios, but should be much more of a draw than any of the individuals could generate on their own. it's economic (and maybe artistic) synergy at work.

good for them! i'll buy.
