Default Bob Brookmeyer

Obviously not a guitarist, but I heard that Bob Brookmeyer had passed away.

Condolences to family and friends - another one of the greats gone.

He was a fine trombonist, but he was even better as an arranger, composer, teacher, inspirator and band leader. He was in charge of our Danish Radio Big Band for one season some years ago.

Default Tribute

Brookmeyer really knew what to do with guitar players. I still play his Brookmeyer & Guitars album with Jim Hall and Jimmy Raney as often as anything I own.

I love that record. The music is inspired and swinging. I like very much Jimmy Raneys tone on the beat up old ES150 he used back then. Reportedly the guitar was in bad condition, but nevertheless sounded great. Jimmy Raney has later commented that the guitar was very hard to play.

Agreed, Raney's ES150 tone is pretty much tops on my list of classic jazz tones.

Thanks Oldane for the ES150 story. I haven't heard that before. Can yoy imagine Jimmy Raney finding something hard to play? It must have been a total wreck
