Check This Out! Jazz guitarists I had never heard of...

I recently purchased an AppleTV and was listening to one of the 10,000s or so streaming radio stations available with this device. That particular station was devoted to jazz guitar. There were a lot of numbers by players I have never heard of before. Here is a list for your exploration and enjoyment. I have found albums of all these guys on Rhapsody and I haven't checked but I suspect they're all on itunes as well. Enjoy...

John Basile - John Basile - johnbasile.net

Those are some pretty obscure names. I've heard Campbell somewhere, and for awhile I was really into Mark Whitfield, who put out quite a few records on Verve--and then disappeared. I don't listen to him much anymore, but there's some worthy stuff. Forever Love is a surprisingly good "with strings" CD--actually, not all strings; he plays solo on several tracks.

Default The Desmond Project 1996

I like John Basiles Sound and Playing on his 1996 CD "The Desmond Project".

Here is "You Go To My Head" from "The Desmond Project".

George Muscatello and Nate Radley are on my "known by too few" list. YOu'll find recordings of them mostly as side men, although Nate's coming out with his own release soon.

Mark Whitfield's been playing with Chris Botti for some time now.

Nigel Price is a British player so his profile in the US is unfortunately bound to be low. Also check out Phil Robson, Mike Outram, Dave Okumu, Jim Mullen, David Preston, Mark McKnight, all great players the equal of more well-known US names.

David-
Thanks for those names! I really enjoy discovering new (to me) jazz guitarists.

Cheers

Bob

For old school newbies:
Lawrence Lucie
Oscar Aleman
Tiny Grimes

For off the beaten bop track
Billy Bean
Sal Salvador
Tony Mattola

Modern cats are all unknown but some more so than others
Joe Morris
James Emory
Dave Tronzo
Just check out the Smalls website archives if you want to know about people you've never heard of. Then find out when they're playing. Then watch them on live streaming video. SMALLS JAZZ CLUB 183 W. 10TH ST. NYC

Of course the big one everyone overlooks or never heard of is Martin Mull.
Have fun
David
