| | Jeff Parker Anybody else here dig Jeff Parker? I was exposed to him through his membership in Tortoise (one of my favorite bands), they're an instrumental/experimental band if I had to categorize. Anyway that music is very structured and relatively simple (obviously not a bad thing), but he comes from a jazz background and has excellent solo stuff as well. I have two of his albums, Like-Coping and The Relatives which are quite good; he's got a great sound and has chord knowledge up the wazoo. He's in a band called Isotope 217 as well, which I suppose is like Tortoise's jazzier cousin; also great music, though I suggest checking out his aforementioned solo albums first.

| | Big fan.
Parker has such an identifiable tone...and everything he plays is skewed thru his way of thinking...makes for some unsettling, interesting music. |

| | Ah I see you're in Chicago, have you ever seen him live in a jazz setting? I assume plays there often. I've seen him live with Tortoise a couple of times but would very much like to see him in a different kind of show. |

Thanks for the tip. | You'll enjoy listening to them for the first time; I heard those two albums after only hearing him with Tortoise and Isotope 217, so hearing these was totally different. Damn good music.
Gotta love Tortoise eh?

| | I knew he was around like 10 years ago, but since I just got into guitar 6 months ago, I just recently checked him out on you tube. I really dug his TONE. I just scored his "relatives" & Like-Coping CD's. The Like Coping CD is really good, I like what he does layering different time feels. He has a brand new one out called "Bright Light in Winter," which I don't own yet, but he has 3 tunes up on his web-site. It sounds really GOOD. I don't really dig the Tortoise stuff, but I am really into his solo work, and I imagine the stuff with Fred Anderson is top shelf. Again, he has a really BEAUTIFUL tone. |
