Default Any Bobby Broom fans?

I know he's not as flashy as most of the players out there these days but I really dig his style! Anyone else?

Oh yeah!

He approaches improvisation from a different perspective that most players. There's a tension in his playing that make's his musical voice unique.

Love me some bobby. Song and dance is still a favorite, in constant listening rotation...

Fumble:

Song and dance is a great trio record. A must have.

I also love blues for modern man. If you like organ jazz, this is the shizznit.

All of the deep blue organ trio stuff is worth hearing...

His monk record is great too...oh, and one more-- I love his playing on sonny rollins' sonny please, but his tone is a little too dark for my tastes on that record (playing makes up for it though)

I think Modern Man is my fav at the moment but I really dig the Monk record as well. All of his records are solid imo.

I have not heard the Rollins record so I'll have to check that one out!

Absolutely smoking good...I love how everybody in that vid is obviously "feeling it." I know sonny loves bobby, hell, he's played with him on and off since he was a teenager!

Bobby Broom! One of my favorite jazz guitar players. I found him through his work w/Kenny Burrell, & then I heard him again w/Deep Blue Organ Trio. He's also on Sonny's DVD, Sonny Rollins In Vienne.
A while back I was working on Fly Me To The Moon, collecting many different versions of the tune & studying each one. I found one on iTunes that Bobby did; I forget which album. It was obviously recorded at a supper club, as you can hear talking & dishes clattering in the recording. Bobby is absolutely burning & there's all this conversation going on through the entire song! I couldn't believe that all those people were talking right over this virtuoso. It made me depressed to consider the lot in life a jazz guitar player has, lol.
He's definitely one of those players that makes me think "what the heck is he doing?"

That live album is killer but I agree that the level of noise from the patrons is initially very annoying!

In fact, I was all set to leave a negative review on Amazon when what do I see? A comment from Mr. Broom himself regarding this very issue lol. Here it is:

"Dear Friends:

As the back-story to the disc explains: the music here comes from the recorder of a fan in the audience. I was unaware at the time of these performances that I would eventually be offering them to you.

As the "decider" overseeing the release of this music, I had to weigh the importance of the blatant crowd noise on the two tunes against what I felt were some strong performance aspects, especially on "Fly Me". My consideration was for and about the listeners or potential consumers. In the end, I chose to go with the music. As I listened myself, I found that that track in particular swept me up (pardon the pun) and the strength and energy of the music won out.

I hope that those of you who might want to experience these tracks will allow me this kind of artistic license for just two of the eight selections and that ultimately, and above all else, you will enjoy the music.

Sincerely,

Bobby Broom"

After I read his comments, I was able to enjoy the recording for what it was and the noise no longer bothered me!

I love BB's playing, as stated before it really does come from another place, you get the feeling he would play the same notes and style regardless of what instrument he plays! Obviously lots of Sonny in his playing but a serious lack of cliche which goes to show what a creative player he is!
Monk record is my fave

I only know the two that I have, Clean Sweep (1981) and Modern Man (2001). My favorite of the two is Modern Man.
