| | Jonathan Kreisberg Sound (Delay) Hello Everyone,
I'm looking to add a bit of delay to my sound--just a touch for a more modern feel. The best example I can think of is Jonathan Kriesberg's sound--very tasteful use of delay. I know he's been a much discussed player on this forum, rightfully so. I do have a Boss DD-3 (I believe he uses a Boss). I do play a 335 through a Fender Deluxe, so no complaints on my equipment. But when I turn on the DD-3 I'm feeling a loss of tonal quality. It's definitely delay but I'm not loving it as much as I thought I would. So, I wonder if I'm setting it properly or maybe it should be used with a reverb unit or what. Perhaps it's not the best unit? I'm having second thoughts about it being the sound I want.
So, do you have any thoughts about how get that sound? (other than playing as well as JK )
Thanks!

| | Some pedals will tone suck, for sure. I've had pretty good luck with an analog delay-- an ibanez.
I love the way jk uses delay-- he might have my favorite current playerr tone. If you don't want to look into another pedal, you might start by looking into some outboard eq-- seems to me pedals like delay and chorus seem to rob some middle frequencies and add some highs, so you might need to counteract that...good luck, happy pickin' |

| | That's a top notch pedal, you probably need to play with it more. Delays are funny creatures. I've used delay with an amp that didn't have reverb, to simulate reverb, and it sounded different, but a very nice substitute.
When I go for a bigger delay sound like Kreisberg, I have to use an amp with reverb. It makes all the difference in the world. I use the same amount of reverb that I'd normally use without delay, then add delay to taste. I can get pretty much the same sound out of any name brand stompbox delay. I have noticed that analog delays seem a tad warmer than digital. Keep tweaking, they're a bit of work if you are new to them, but it's worth the trouble. |

| | Then I notice Mike Stern in his small setup without the rack harmonizer he uses two DD-3 delay pedals. Any idea how the second pedal is setup?
