Default Billy Bauer / Lee Konitz

Amazon.com: Very Cool + Tranquility: Lee Konitz: Music

The Tranquility portion of this CD features some great playing from Billy.

I got it at borders.com for cheaper than this but they don't seem to have it anymore.

I've got it, too.
Excellent album, I didn't know this guitarist, before. I like his style.
He comes from the cool movement, with lennie tristano, lee konitz,...

Yes, and worked with Charlie Parker, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman and many others. Here's Billy's site:

Billy Bauer's Music Home Page

I also found a great article about him that discusses the Tristano influence:

Jazz Departments: Billy Bauer ? By Harvey Pekar ? Jazz Articles

I need to get a copy of "Plectrist":

Billy Bauer: Plectrist - JazzWax

Another reason I picked this CD up was because Sal Mosca plays on the "Very Cool" portion:

Sal Mosca Music

A great pianist from near where I grew up. Also an unsung hero of jazz.

I studied with Lee for a year or two in the 70s, when I was primarily a saxophone player. Very interesting guy, was doing some really cool stuff at the time. Chick Corea and Jan Hammer were part of his band before going on to better known gigs, for example. The albums Peacemeal and Duets are very good listening.
I have the Billy Bauer "Plectrist" album, haven't listened in a while. I'll have to dig it out tonight.

I remember that album. He reminds me of Johnny Smith in certain sections. Definitely a maestro.
