I discovered this book, published by Alfred, and bought it sight-unseen. It's *packed* with the coolest, rhythmic, hip stuff -- makes your mouth water. The guy conveys the often-tricky Brazilian rhythms by vocalizing "pa-papa-pa --pa papa -papa pa" -- like that, extremely effective, much more-so than would be the same groove demonstrated on guitar, for example. There are plenty guitar tracks, too, though....
I got it from Amazon a couple years ago. There's easily a year or two, or three, of study here. I don't currently have a playable nylon string (mine got busted

) -- but this can work on a steel string, especially if you tweak it with some chorus.
Anyway - a highly-recommended book for really soaking your feet in Baiao, Frevo, Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro, Xote -- with performance-level musical examples.
Wish I knew how to post actual pictures here. And my scanner chopped off a bit - it's a big book. Author is
Carlos Arana.
