Guitar Interesting guitar tuning ideas

What are some ideas for different, interesting guitar tunings? I've got to write a quick instrumental piece on a 12 string, something really flashy and complex. Similar to John Butler's stuff. His song Ocean has gotten me so many faces despite being surprisingly easy to pull off (the open tuning on a 12 string mixed with lots of hammer ons and pull offs and tapping and drumming stuff does most of the work for me), of course not nearly as good as him. I need a 2 minute piece similar to that but I can't write anything in open C without it sounding like Ocean. Similar as in the same kind of solo 12 string complex delicate intricate guitar stuff he does.

What are some interesting tunings that I can mess around with, try to create something like that?

Guess some one should give you at least one response

I was checking out the California Guitar Trio and they use an different tuning and it might just be what you are looking for even if it's not a tunig for a 12 string .

They use : Guitar Craft Tuning: CGDAEG

Strange but cool , i have listened to these guys before I knew they tuned their guitars like this , I knew there was something different but I was not sure till I wrote them and got the info I am passing on to you .

Good luck hope this helps .

Easy man :

Hi!
Really interesting and inspiring tuning! Thank you for posting.
I am going to sit down and see what I can come up with.
You play very well and have your own style.
Best regards

All else fails, try open G . Sounds good on a 12 string.
