Default Pop

Not having any background in jazz, I'm getting a kick out of studying the Mickey Baker books and realising how stuff fits into some great pop songs.

For instance I was playing one of the early chords in Mickeys book 2 (he doesn't even name them) and I thought, wow this sounds familiar. Sure enough it was the piano intro to Kate Bushs Wuthering Heights, suddenly translated to an easy finger style guitar.
This week I was bashing through some McCartney songs, and found Let Em In is great practice for maj7 to maj6 changes.

This is a bit naive, but it's all new to me - making sense out of music!

Please post if you have other examples of pop stealing jazz.

Mickey Baker was a pop guitarist/producer/arranger ("Love Is Strange"), and "pop" music was quite sophisticated until the 50s, giving us most of our "jazz" standards.
