| | Sorry guys, what I was referring to was a song list that you've played or heard a band play.
What are some good jazz combo sets? I've heard that a good set would be at least 15 songs, which would equate to about 1 hour, depending on how much improvisation goes on.
I'm currently putting a set together with my band fellows, I wonder what songs go well together?
I once played Ornithology then How High The Moon, our professor told us that they go together quite well. |

The reason for that is that Ornithology is based on How High the Moon-same chord changes, different melody.
I wouldn't want to play both tunes in the same set. |

Yea I agree, it was kind of boring playing them one after the other. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep a look out for things like that. |

| | Mix it up with a good variety. Different keys, tempos, styles. Ballad, blues, latin, swing, bebop, hard bop, modal, 3/4, uptempo, etc. |

15 songs for an hour sounds like a lot for a full band, particularly live where you can stretch out a bit. |

| | 1) Don't play 2 songs in the same key, or with the same tempo, next to each other
2) Finish a set with an uptempo tune
3) If you have songs that are very same tempo and key, they can sometimes work good as medley. |

| | gig lists We have a "master list" to select from that consists of mostly old standards (Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Jobim, Jerome Kern, Gershwin, Harold Arlen, etc, etc....) that we have rehearsed. I have arranged most of the tunes to fit our vocalist's comfort range. We usually open the first set with an easy "up" tune for a good warm up. We usually have at least two Bossa tunes for each set. We rarely put two ballads together and we have found our typical audience likes a variety of styles and tempos. The list below was used last weekend for our weekend jazz gigs and we generally used the same list for both Fri & Sat night. Every week we change our set list so our audience can expect some different most of the time. Set 1 Blue Bossa Come Rain Or Come Shine Day By Day At Last Just Squeeze Me You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To You Don't Know What Love is Watch What Happens Wave Summer Wind Set 2 You Took Advantage Of Me Where Or When Skylark Time After Time When Sunny Gets Blue Teach Me Tonight The End Of A Love Affair Set 3 Nevertheless Misty Somebody Loves Me Pennies From Heaven Cry Me A River More Than You Know Once In A While XXX Lover Man I'm A Fool To Want You I'm Old Fashioned For Heaven's Sake I Could Write A Book I Can't Get Started Fine And Dandy
