Default Sonny Landreth

Hey, folks.

Anyone here a fan of Sonny Landreth? I've only been listening to him recently, and I've been using him as a basis for some slide playing I've been doing. Man, the stuff Sonny can do with a slide is amazing.

I have listened to one of his newer albums, but I can't remember which one. I recall his lyrics and song structure to have a little more substance than a lot of blues music.

I liked it for sure though.

Yeah, his stuff is brilliant.

He manages to play more than one chord shape with a slide thanks to his 'fretting behind the slide' technique.

Basically, Sonny tunes his guitars to an open tuning- usually open E.

Then, if he wants to play a minor E chord at the twelfth fret, he'll slide the slide up to the twelfth fret, and fret the third string at the 11 fret- he has the action set up so that you can fret behind the slide without the slide touching the string, giving you more than one chord shape.

I'd say this is one of my favourite guitar solos ever.

That's cool. I think slide guitar is really under appreciated these days.
