Here is a list of the currently happening weekly jam sessions that I know about in seattle.... (there are more)
Monday night: Amore restaurant on 6th and denny = really great session mid level to great players standards and some more adventurous stuff too Tuesday night: Owl and Thistle on Post and Columbia = best straight ahead session in town, amazing players, (kendrick scott came in last week) hit or miss an attendance but when its good, it's amazing.
Seamonster Lounge on 45th and bagley = McTuff organ trio with the best players in town who aren't at the owl, andy coe playes guitar, but people sit in all the time, and it's always packed.... super packed. Wednsday night: Lo-Fi on eastlake and republican = collaborative jam session of all styles and levels, it just started last month so I'm not sure how it is, but Evan Flory-Barnes runs it.... so it's probably pretty damn good.
Cellars on 2nd and Virgina = smooth jazz jam, really, really smooth, the whole place smells like Axe body spray and drinks are like 10 bucks, but the playing is extremely tight, and you can sit in. Thursday Night: Lucid Jazz lounge on 52nd and university = nu jazz style session, no standards, just modal jams mixed with backbeat. it's a really good hang though and a great place to meet people. A lot of the pro's who visit town come sit in (I got to play with Roy Hargrove last month)
Friday and Saturday are open Sunday night: Racer sessions at Roosevelt and Ravenna = the best free jazz session in possibly the entire country (no shit) it's been written about in the new york times several times, this is where the local cats who are now living in new york as well as the cutting edge improvisers have their weekly meetings, it's pack with young people every week and the music is usually on point. I'm not super into free music but am good friends with a lot of the regulars so I go a few times a month.
the Faire Gallery on melrose and olive = another free session, a lot less organized and IMO not as good, but... you can definitely play if you want to.
All of the clubs I just mentioned with the exception of amore have good music almost every night, also check out...
Tulas on 2nd and bell and Egans on Market st in Ballard.
this list does not include west seattle or ballard, both of which have sessions weekly as well, I live closer to downtown and these are the sessions I go to regularly, hope to see you out and about with your guitar.
keep an ear out for Brendan O'donnell, he's one of the most burning young guitarists in the city right now.
