Default chromatic scale exercise.

Have you seen the example in the lessons section? I like this idea- essentially a 7 note arp (b-d-f-a-c-e-g-b etc) with a chromatic approach to every second note. Got me wondering:
1/ how would this work in reverse?
2/ Are there any other ideas such as this?
3/ Can ideas based on a 7 note arp work for any chords that belong to the "key of the moment" without worrying about specifics? Eg, take any 4 or 8 note section of the ex. sequence. it can sound ok against any chord in the key. The weighted notes will always appear as either chord tones or extensions, right?
