I dl'd it. Nice quick and dirty document. No clutter of charts, grids, etc, just the relationships and a simple explaination. I like it.

When I try to download it, I get a message "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired".

If you have been getting the following error message “the file is damaged and cannot be repaired” when you are trying to download the PDF, open Adobe Acrobat Reader and click ‘Edit’, ’Preferences’. Choose ‘Internet’ in the categories of the Preferences window. Uncheck ‘Display PDF in browser’ option and close the window.

What this will do is to open the PDF directly within acrobat reader, and not internet explorer.

If this does not make any difference, then download and install latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, using the link below.

For the latest download of Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 please click on the following link, www.adobe.com/support/downloads this is a free download for the latest version of adobe.

Take it from an old codger...at 75 this is excellent stuff....concise information that would've helped greatly in my earlier development...but...it's also very useful to me now. Thanks so much for such good material!!

Well, as another 'old cogger' at 64, I also found this article to be of great help! After a 5 year layoff from playing guitar, I was amazed at the amount of "stuff" I had forgotten! Never again will I get so involved in life that I quit playing, every day if possible. Only recently did I attempt to play jazz style, and while the melody lines are not a problem, getting the right chords and note substitution chords can really be a challenge. It is a good thing to have found this forum...

Brilliant! This book sums up stuff I kind of know instinctively, but couldn't explain to save my life! Now I can be a smartarse next time I have to play with an uppity pianist!

Default Frank Novotny's Chord Substitutions Booklet

This is my first post so I'm not sure if this has been covered before.
Frank mentions that Cm6=Am7b5=F9. I also like to think of it as a non root altered B7. It contains the #5 & the b9. So when playing over any 7th#5b9 chord you can play a m6th arpeggio 1/2 step above the root of the chord or a m7b5 arp. a whole step below the root of the altered chord.

Excellent! The groupings do lend to a more organized view of related chords.
