Default metric modulation

Im not sure this is the right place to post this idea and if its not im sorry.

Anyway this an excercise i like to do ocasionall that may be obvious but i thought id share it. You dont need a guitar at first just your hands and a metronome

To play the game you set the metronome and a slow click and practice tapping click and click and click and click which is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and which would give you duplets

then practice click and a click and a etc 1 and a 2 and a etc which is triplets

simple but it gets trickier when u try it with quintuplets and septuplets

i count a quintuplet out of habit as 1 and 2 and 3 = 5 beats
a septuplet as 1 and 2 and 3 and 4= 7 beats

this can get very tricky for me and then the next challenge is to modulate between them in various ways i like going triplets to quintuplets to septuplets one or 2 bars of each

I find this excercise tricky but fun. You can then try and apply melodic ideas to it or arpeggios of triads for the triplets pentatonic scales for the duplets and diatonic scales for the septuplets. There are all sorts of rhythmic idsplacement things u can do to spice this up and if anyone has any luck with this let me know or any ideas for me to try out id love to hear them

good luck

that's a pretty good exercise. Another one I like to do is hum notes, then try to play them on my guitar.
