| | I voted for "Summertime" also, only because that is one of 3 songs I sort of know....and it would give me a fighting chance to participate and gather some great input on a tune I have started to look at!

| | I'd enjoy working on any of these songs, although I'm not sure how well "At Last" would work for guitar. I wasn't familiar with Topsy when I first saw the poll, but after seeing the Lee Konitz version posted by oilywrag, I started to get into it. I voted for Autumn Leaves, but with so many good choices, it was hard to decide.
Eric Clapton might not be well known for jazz, but his version of Autumn Leaves is fantastic:

That said I've run into the situation more than once that the tune was called at a session in the key of G minor, that is as we all know a minor third up and coincidentally nicely accommodates our best friends, the horn players who simply love playing Bb major stuff . The New Real Book 1 contains a lead sheet for AL in the key of G minor. Also chances are fairly high that folks want to play it as a medium swing as it allows for more choruses to be played and consequently more folks can take a solo.
So for those here who like to prepare tunes that may get called on the bandstand, you may want to practice the tune in both keys. |

It is a great tune, easy to play, and loved by many teachers as an example of playing a song based primarily in one key. I like to use it to experiment with melodic minor sounds.
