Default Sooo Psyched!

I've been playing since around 1970. I all but stopped in the late 80's to late 90's (family/kids), after which I resumed. After a few years, I wanted to study again, so I started lessons with a local jazz guitarist for 4 years, and learned a lot! So much, that I stopped about 10 months ago to review and completely assimilate the material. A few weeks ago, a chance meeting with a monster player with very impressive performance credits ended up with me getting a weekly timeslot with him. Had my first lesson last week. We did ATTYA. In a heartbeat, he assessed my playing and the work began. Next lesson is tonight. I must have practiced (as opposed to played) 20 solid hours this week. My last teacher layed a great foundation. My new teacher will help me get to the advanced level. He's a rare person who can both play AND teach. I'm stoked! I think I'm going to sell my *huge* stack of books and materials on ebay!

That's great. There's nothing like that kind of motivation to get one to spend quality time on the instrument.

You're in a great neighborhood for jazz guitar teachers. Keep going!

Why don't you list them here. You'll get some happy takers. I'd be interested if the $ is right. (Keep it in the family.) Best of luck with your lessons. Exciting indeed!

His name is Tony Lombardozzi. (TonyLombardozzi.com) What a player, and he's played with so many people! More importantly for me, he can really teach! (Not that my last teacher couldn't, he definitely could, but sometimes a different perspective is a good thing)

I guess I should keep things in the family. :-) I just need to go through it all. I have so much, many with CD's or DVD's too!

Hey, that's wonderful! I haven't had a teacher since 2010 when I went into the army for 6 months (Finland has universal male conscription). I think I should get me a monthly slot with someone, finding time is always a bit of a problem since I've got lots of interests and hobbies nowadays

Yeah - it is now almost a month since I started and I've been practicing sooo much! I'm a single minded kind of person, so to me, my whole life revolves around my music, even if it means dumping other interests. It is both good and bad, but I do have a one-track mind. I totally look forward to practice because all the theory I had learned is now coming alive and helping me make real music. I am still just so psyched!

By the way, Skype lessons can give you access to some seriously good techers. A good frined of mine recently started studying with Carol Kaye, a true studio icon. Good luck!
