Default what's the deal with the practical standards group?

Hi there, I've lurked a little on some of the 'practical standards group' threads and am just wondering what the nature of the group is. Clearly, you study standards, but how regularly do you pick a new one? and can anyone join (bearing in mind im not up to chord melody yet, but would like to increase the number of standards i know).

tia

Hey TTL,

The practical standards study group threads are open to everyone. You can use them however you want. I think many don't post and just lurk, others post, and some post recordings.

The word 'Practical' was added after the 1st or 2nd one as some where getting into esoteric theory discussions/arguments. The intent of using the word 'Practical' was to keep the theory down to what specifically applied to getting through the tune.

I've thought of it as some buddies getting together, having a beer, and working and discussing a tune and playing some guitar. So positive vibes and encouragement and learning is what they are about. (It's only virtual beer.)

Join in the water's fine.

i just joined in in the middle of last month and was able to ask and get advice on the directions i should be going and see the mistakes that i was making, not even really mistakes just making it harder on myself but it did help, although i dont have the song down pat i am not far from it, my practice time can be limited and it seems to be a way to keep me focused and also to learn things i might not actually pick myself
