Practical Standards Grp "In Your Own Sweet Way"

This will be the thread for our new song "In Your Own Sweet way". I am having a problem getting into my box. net account so it might be a couple of days before I am able to post backing tracks for this song.

    Problem solved

My boxnet problem was solved. This link is for a BIAB backing track for "In Your Own Sweet Way". It is a realtracks version in the Bill Evans Trio Styles. It has a 4 bar intro and 4 choruses.

ok, I started with this one. Great melody, fairly easy to learn melody quickly and lots of chords (mainly 2 to the bar) but slow tempo so not so hard. Then I tried soloing and it is tough. If I just outline (some of) the chords as they go past it sounds lame and the key keeps changing if you try skimming over sections. HELP!

Here is my version. I have only heard Wes's take, which is a ballad. I am not too familiar with the song, but here goes:

And I'd say you're channeling some Wes there in your take very nicely. Good stuff.

Excellent recording Kman. I really like the way you set the mood and kept it throughout. Gorgeous tone.

Dazz, if you post a recording we can gage where you're at. I would keep outling those chords and play the melody often. There's is a lot of info in the melody, whether it be target notes, rhythms et ... If you're a beginner it's a long process, so don't get frustrated.

Gee, looks like I'm the only ine who decided to tackle "You Go To My Head" before this tune... maybe I should switch gears.

    Nice playing Kman!

I have been a beginner for about 6 years. I took up guitar as a middle aged man so frustration is normal/I am used to it. This seems like a tough tune; it helps if I slow it down and break it up into pieces. The Bridge is fine; it is the A section that is tough. Thanks for the offer.

Went to office and did this waiting for a student to come by and borrow a book.

I have a jam session tomorrow with some humans and will see of I can play it again then for probably a better version that would be a lot more inspired and not cold on the axe. That being said I'm also moving tomorrow so who knows when I'd get to upload it.

Either way, do what you will with it.

Hey Kman... very nice version, and Jake cool as always. Couldn't hear the changes that well and even though I dig your harmonic approach, was hard to hear movement... harmonically. But still dug, thanks.
I'll Post a couple videos, one with Howie's track and one more like I usually play the tune. A little faster swing.. around 220, a medium swing. The tune's an AABA almost re-harm bebop tune...
"A"..1st 4 bars... VI- I maj, or G- to Bbmaj.
bars 5-8 is rally bVI, V, I or Gb, F7, Bb (repeat A)
The bridge is just III to II, Dmaj to Cmaj. not quite typical extended Dom. but similar composing concept and the back to "A".
If needed, I'll also make a video with traditional analysis.
Hey Sgreb... I'll check out "You Go To My Head" and do the same...

I enjoyed it Wiz. You have a nice touch. Some slick comping there too.

Great Playing Jake. Would've been nice to hear the backing track a bit more to see how your solo juxtaposed against the harmony. Still, I could tell that here was a lot of cool stuff going on. Look forward to the live band post.

Wiz, nice comping off the top. Cool voicings. Your time falls behind a bit after that, perhaps it's just a matter of getting more comfortable with the changes (?). Solo has some sweet lines.

I'm working on "You go to my head" and hope to post in a couple of days. Then I'll tackle this one.

    In Your Own Sweet Way

Kman: thanks, I'm still working on the song for my weekend jazz gig.
sgreb: thanks very much for your comments. I sometimes have timing problems with BIAB but usually do better with live musicians. I don't know why but it seems like getting in a groove is easier for me when I can have eye contact with live musicians.

Ok, I am game for trying this song.

Where can I get the sheet music from since it isn't in my Real Book ?

    TIA
