Default A John Scofield style lick

John Scofield is such a Master...

I got requests to do more of lesson in this style... so here you go. Let me know what you think.

This is from his more funk/blues side, not straight ahead jazz. Check out his album Hand Jive for more of this.

Thanks,
Robert.

What an awesome lick. I love Sco, and I took a shot at this as soon as I got home from work. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I actually played it that way at first, but then I switch to the way in the video, because I thought most people would find it easier.

Sco has some very interesting fingerings happening in his playing - constantly. Very well worth transcribing, in my opinion.

Thanks, glad to hear!

Scofield is the one who is fantastic though - not me!

Nice post, thank you very much. I like your fingerings that you show for the phrasing possibilities, and thanks Kris for transcribing the lick. This sounds like a minor ii-V-i lick over a static Cm

generally this is c min harmonic scale resolving to Bb.
first 5 notes arpeggio over dm7b5
last 9 notes looks like cmin pentatonic scale
I think:-)
