Default A New Member

I just recently found this site. What a great place to learn and share ideas about jazz guitar.

I am a novice player looking to improve and this site seems to be an ideal place to do just that - improve my ablities as a jazz guitarist.

My favorite guitarist is Wes Montgomery. I play in a Big Band and various smaller combos. I play mostly standards and take pride in being a "solid" rhythm player. I do, however, want to step up a bit and learn to improvise so I can feel comfortable when I need to solo.

Peace!

New to this forum...just a homegrown picker with more music words than knowledge in my head, but a love of jazz in my heart. I play a few scales, chords and chord melodies, but its almost all rote memory, not a lot of invention or response. Hoping to learn a bit more about music and how to practice with it from the forum. Thanks. CPGP

Default My intro... 2,3,4

Hello all, I have been playing guitar for many years, country, folk, blues, rock and have always dabbled in jazz, but never been really very good at it. I can manage all the chords, but whenever I try and play solo lines it just doesn't sound right. I have read loads of books and know the theory, but can't get it into the fingers. I play regularly in a folk club and also for theatres - also play mandolin and fiddle. I hope to pick up a few pointers here. Favourite jazz guitar player - Martin Taylor.

Default Full Circle

What's up folks...just coming around, and checking in to what seems like a great resource. Thanks for being here. My playing has come 360 degrees, from the standards Dad taught me 40 years ago to the rock scene, and now with a piano player doing those same standards. I'd like to dress them up a little better than I did when I was 12. But most of all I'd like to thank my Dad, a very smooth jazz cat who always put family first. I miss him. Thanks all, Bill

I can truly appreciate what you had to say, if it were not for my Dad, I would not have developed my great love for Jazz in all it's forms, and I to miss my Dad! Joe.

Ok I recognized the French. I speak Spanish and I'm familiar with Italian but I don't know what that last is. SO I will guess it's Flemish or maybe Catalunian.

Hi there, this is my first ever post to this forum. I'm a guitar player from Penang Malaysia. Recently, we had the Penang Jazz Festival featuring some international greats such as Steve Hacket etc; I hope to meet some guitar players here and exchange notes. Bye Jazzy
