Are you living in Buenos Airies Sergio? Do you play live music? I may have a place for you as my best friend (British) has bought a place in the heart of the tango district (with all the colourful buildings) and loves blues and jazz guitar.

The resources are fantastic - especially the tabs for chord melody. Big thumbs up |

| | scales I think it's better for you to know the intervals first. The spaces between the notes. from there on you can go further. For example
c d e f g a b c is because of the spaces between the notes this scale is an ionian scale
Good luck |

| | Hello Everybody This is my first post, so Hello. I play in a band called Dengue Fever. We have a Cambodian singer and we do a sort of Asian Psychedelic Ethiopian Jazz Surf whatever we feel like playing kind of thing. I'd love to learn a few things here so I can communicate with the rest of the band in the most efficient way.
thanks,

| | | Hi, I received an e.mail that I have not been active on the Forum for awhile so be it known that I am back and open to any and all questions that I may be helpful in answering.. Theory is my main thing as many of you might know of my 5 + decades as a Pro.. Pro - Principal Percussionist / Tympanist 33 years with The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra ended my playing career, but my early roots as a Jazz Vibist / Drummer have returned and I have gone back to playing Jazz way up in the N.Y. Catskills. I also started to teach myself both Jazz and Classical Guitar which originally brought me to the Forum.. My Guitar playing is coming along very well. At first I used NO books, as my knowledge with 2 Degrees in Music many decades ago and Yrs. with The Boston Pops / Symphony and other great Bands and Orchestras demanded that I learn the fingerboard in all Keys and also fingerpicking technique.. After months of research Martin Taylor,a Virtuoso Guitarist caught my attention.. Having said that, I agreed with his personal approach to playing which is not at all like he and I agree is taught is Music Schools I purchased 1 of his books and a DVD as a picture / video is worth a thousand words.. Formation of Bass lines, Melody and Harmony is quite unlike Chord structure although there is nothing wrong with Chord changes as we all know they are called. That is how Taylor approaches his Craft and that is the road I chose to follow.. We all have choices and that was mine.. I hope that anyone with productive suggestions about Guitar playing will share them with me, but as in the past some letters calling me an Elitist because of my background turned me off to the Forum.. Please write to me as I respect wherever or whatever you are doing in your Musical lives at this time.. At the same time please respect my Career and if I can help you and you can help me, well we will get along.. Make every tomorrow your masterpice ! HLB |

| | Welcome Metoperaretired... or rather Herb, HLB,
Fascinating. You've come to the right place. These folks are all around cool. Time is a bit of a commodity, though. Be patient. You could be quite our rhythm master. Another very important commodity.
You're a chart reader. That could be very beneficial to me, personally.
I do like Martin Taylor (solo playing). There are other methods which may move you more quickly. We're nearly the same age and somewhat the same theory background. Look into, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Chuck Wayne and Charlton Johnson, too. These folks will help you more quickly. And of course, this site. As for classical playing, I've yet to find a very concise method, except maybe mine. Time, again. Since you can read, this journey could be easier. Classical guitar is reading and physical.
Welcome to the show,

| | Intro Glenn, outdatheloop,
Where in sunny Fl.? It's wretchedly cold today.
Your ES330T, I believe, is the classic rarity. 5 grand, maybe. Keep it, buddy boy. I need to do some research. It's a 1959 vintage. I need to talk to some friends in the vintage world. I lost a '62 Tele by being stupid and/or not paying attention. The best guitar I've ever owned or had in my grimy little paws. I regret it to this day.
This is a great site and very kind, no egos. Have fun

| | Hello there Hi, after more than a year reading and learning on this site its maybe time to become an active part of this forum. My name is Johan Böhne from the Netherlands and play over 35 years with some breaks. As a young player it was nothing but rock and blues. The last 4 year i became more interest in jazz and play the standards with our band. My guitar is a Höfner 456/S/E1 from 1960 with a new H514/FN-G pick-up. My amp is a Fender FM212dsp and use the most of the time the JazzKing type. I had also a Gibson ES345td ans a Polytone Minibrute III amp witch a both sold. Both the Gibson and the Polytone sounds a bit to muddy to me. |

Do I need something else to along recording along? These probably silly questions but I don't have a clue. Thanks for your help. Tom |

| | Big band guitar Hi there,
I am actually looking for some one that really plays the acoustic american style.
As a guitarmaker I need a demo recording on my website that let player hear tjhe possibilities of my guitars. The one that is missing is an acoustic rythym played piece. Maybe you are willing to contact me.
My website: www.scharpach.com you can find my email and phone there.
Best wishes,
Theo Scharpach Quote:

I am a novice player looking to improve and this site seems to be an ideal place to do just that - improve my ablities as a jazz guitarist.
My favorite guitarist is Wes Montgomery. I play in a Big Band and various smaller combos. I play mostly standards and take pride in being a "solid" rhythm player. I do, however, want to step up a bit and learn to improvise so I can feel comfortable when I need to solo.
