| | Hello,
My name is Randy and this is my first post. I have been playing guitar for 16 years but have only gotten into jazz in the last 11 years. I have a good ear and a good knowledge of theory, but I have some trouble with understanding the interrelationships of 7th chords and hearing the chord subs that people use.
My favorite jazz artists are Miles Davis, Brad Meldhau, Brian Blade, and Cannonball Adderly.
I love Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkle, John Scofield, Joe Pass, Alex Skolnick, and many others.
I hope to add to the discussions as well as improve my knowledge of chord theory and expand my playing. To me, music is a life's project and I strive to improve all the time. I am thankful to have discovered this cite. |

| | Hello,
My name is Jeff and I'm from Salt Lake City, I've been receiving the Jazz guitar Gazette for about a year now and I figure in order to expand my skills I need advice from other fellow jazz guitar players. This seems to be an excellent site and I hope to receive a lot of feedback and assistance with Jazz Guitar. |

| | Getting in the loop! Hi ya'll from sunny Florida. I have been a trumpet player for more years than I can remember and played in the Air Force Band back in the '60s. I did R&B for a while after that and really got into the funky sounds of Howard Roberts and Jimmy Smith. A few years after I started turning wrenches to feed a growing family. One day a friend dropped by to borrow some money to get his boat and motor out of hock, and wanted me to hold two guitars as collateral, both Gibsons. I put the guitars in a closet and didn't see the guy again for almost five years. When he finally came back from Tenn. I let Him have one of the Gibsons [a four string tenor] but told him I wanted to keep the other and intended to learn to play. Now for the part I know you are chewing your finger nails to hear! The guitar I kept turned out to be an ES330t [probably from around 1959] with the single P90 pup and the dot finger board in almost perfect condition with the original case. Last year I stopped by a yard sale and picked up a Fender Yale Reverb amp [1984 I think] and a short time later a Peavey Classic 20 tube amp that looked and sounded brand new. I think its time to learn to play guitar! I am so glad to have found your web site and look forward to rapping with guys like "Referb". His sound and style is just what I've been looking for.
