 Jazz in Detroit - Jordan, Martino, Burrell, more! If anybody is within reach of Detroit this coming labor day weekend, you might consider a visit. Sunday the 31st alone features a Battle of the Big Bands - featuring the Count Basie Orchestra (and my friend Marshall MacDonald,) against the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, with Kenny Burrell! Other offerings for Sunday include Ravi Coltrane with Geri Allen, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette and Brandee Younger, the Pat Martino Quartet, the Stanley Jordan Trio, the fabulous Hot Club of Detroit, the Alma College Steel Ensemble and lots more.
