Default Ideas for All Blues

Hi Guys,
Any ideas for what to play over the |d7#9||d7#9 eb7#9|section of Miles All Blues? I'm currently using d7 and eb7 arps, targeting the #9 and using the altered scale. Any other ideas?

Cheers,

I've beenusing D dorian for the D7#9 and Eb jazz minor for the Eb#9 and staying in the Eb jazz minor when the chord goes back down the the D7#9, then just resolve back to the D dorian on the G7 chord.

Martino plays and Eb dorian over the D7#9 and an E dorian over the Eb7#9.

Thanks heaps IKmuller. I have just been working through it, really nice. I love the eb jazz minor over the d7#9.

Big thank you once again.

Transcribe the Cannonball solo and use parts of that. It's just an excellent f*cking solo, from start to finish.

I've found that the entire point of this tune is to not play OVER the changes, but to play THROUGH the changes. That's the point of modal playing. Don't worry so much about what scale or mode to play, but paint the tune with colors of sound. If you can hear it work, you can make it work. Play with strength and conviction, and you can force whatever you play to work its' way through the tune.

I've beat myself up over this for years, until I finally understood what Miles was doing with composing modally.

Sometimes, I like little pieces of arps... really simple, sounds good and creates some nice tension... You can do this with pretty much any of chord tones over those chords (D7#9 Eb7#9 D7#9). You might want to resolve with the blues scale over G7 targeting some chord tone.
