Default Ideas for a strange chord

Hi!
I searched for previous similar posts but found none, so I hope it's not a repeat.
I'm playing a concert with my jazz ensemble next week, and I'm supposed to solo in one of the tunes. In the chart the first four bars are a
"Fminor maj7 (9) (b5)" chord, which I've never seen before.
I was wondering what kind of ideas this chord gives you.

I started thinking it as a F° (which it is in some kind of way) but I get bored playing diminished stuff for 4 bars. I found that I can also think of it as a Db altered chord. Either ways I don't really "hear" anything over it. I'm mostly hoping to fall on good notes, which are scattered in weird places on the neck.

I've taken a close look at the melody, on the chart and on the record, and I have no idea where this chord comes from.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
