Default 10 Ways to Navigate 7th Chords

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to pass along a new lesson I recently published over at a friend's website talking about 10 different scales you can use to solo over dominant 7th chords.

10 Ways To Dominate Your Dominant Chords | Free Jazz Lessons

Check it out, thanks!

Hey Matt, I think you should add some blues scale ideas to this article.

Matt, Great clear presentation.

A few addendum beyond the 10 for fellow parishioners of the church of endless permutation:

Harmonic major #III is a variant on the altered scale (1 b2 b3 b4 5 b6 b7 8) but with the natural 5th.

Similar to melodic minor II which has only a m3rd, the various minor modes with a b7 modes can function in a similar way,
phrygian (1 b2 b3 4 5 b6 b7 8) being the most widely used. The m3rd in a similar way to the blues scale is heard as a blue note or #9 sound
and if the Ma3rd is present in the comping then the dominant function is clear.

The m7b5 modes offer some possibilities for b5 7ths.

Blues scales---1 b3 4 b5 5 b7 8 and it's major mode 1 2 b3 3 5 6

Too many possibilities for pentatonics and hexatonics to mention and some of which are excerpts of the scales mentioned.
I like the simple mix of I and bV major triads (1 b2 3 #4 5 b7 8)

yeah there are a ton of other scales that you can check out, I just tried to keep it to 10 so that it wouldn't get too overwhelming, especially for people who are just trying to check out these sounds. Kind of the more common modes, outside of the blues scale, that cats use over the 7th sound.

It was weird how nearly identical the new Firefox was to Google Chrome. And now, with IE9, how nearly identical that one to - yep, Google Chrome.

I can be using any of the three and, without a close look, be a bit unsure which it is I'm using.

(Thanks, Matt - good lesson. Loved the lick in F the other day - I now have 3857 variations. )
