There is nothing obsessive about it. I wanted to see how people from different places and different music backgrounds would evaluate the question. It's not a scientific procedure, but you definitely can have a more precise feedback.

But this fellow appears to be promoting himself as an "A List" player on his website, and if the OP's report of what the guy had to say to him in an online exchange is accurate (which I don't have any reason to doubt), then his playing deserves to be evaluated in the context of the true masters of jazz guitar.

Exactly. You couldn't have been more precise.

And besides that, I tried to keep this topic totally music oriented. I didn't even get into the matter of "do you know who I am? Do you who you are talking to?" kind of attitude that he has.

If I were to pretend to be more than a hack player, I would deserve a serious reality check and more than a little ridicule. In this instance, no one here is directly addressing him and telling him: "You suck!"

He also claims to have been an MTV producer -- he's really pushing his resume as a former child prodigy and industry insider to build his credibility.

And when it is put out there like that, it becomes fair game for anyone to take a shot at.

If I wanted to mislead any comment here, that was the kind of information I would have written in the first post.

Once again. Exactly!

Hi Jpavlicek,

Could you provide a link to the thread on the other site where your discussion with Kanaal started...

Thanks

Jpavlicek,

The internet is overflowing with people misrepresenting themselves and making all sorts of claims. If your mission is to "out" them all, you've got an arduous task in front of you indeed. Maybe you should focus less on this kind of thing - you'll never be able to expose them all. Maybe better to concentrate on your life / music, as the time we have here is finite and precious.

For those who are afraid to contribute to the topic, let me clarify a few things.

No harm intended here. I saw those videos in another forum and thought the guy was just a music lover who loves to play and was sharing his hobby with other people. I think he's a good guitar player. I commended his work in those videos and tried to help with the weak points.

The guy got really mad at me, and started to brag that he plays jazz for over 30 years and that he achieved such a high level in JAZZ improvising that very few people in the world would be able to do what he does. He started to claim that he worked as a JAZZ teacher side by side with JIMMY BRUNO, and that Jimmy complimented him on his work and said that had even learned from him.

From this point on, I started to doubt my senses, music knowledge, and any logic related to what he says and what he plays.
so basically you made this thread to win an internet argument? a crappy thread just got crappier

I think it is unfair to the person to do this, it could be very harmful indeed.

After a few tips from other members here and some research, this thread is closed.

Jazzguitar.be is above perpetuating an internet argument and a smear campaign.

I enocourage all members here to check out the full youtube channel of mr. Lima and not make their decision on his ability by a few cherry picked videos here.
