Hi everyone.
I play in a Souljazz band and it appears that I am the most experienced player in the band...(at least speaking jazz/instrumental music).
That is a little uncomfortable for me because I am not really extremely experienced. I´d say intermediate for a hobby player.
Anyways, yesterday I decided that it was time for us to practice some four/fours (or "trading fours") chorusses.
The drummer didn´t know about the concept and so I explained it to him and promised that I would let him hear
two or three great examples.
Now I´m totally blanking on this
(although I know there are a lot of good examples out there and I have quite a few in my own record collection)
I would prefer something in a Hard Bop or Souljazz setting, preferred artists would be Art Blakey, Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, etc...But anything is appreciated, really.
I would like to let my drummer see how the band plays through the form in any solo, even if they are trading fours with the drummer.
Also, if anyone has a good tip for me on how to practice this it would be greatly appreciated! (At the moment I´m practicing this during rehearsals by calling it, explaining it and just playing it...maybe someone has a better idea or a good vehicular exercise or something....)
Thanks for your answers,
Cheers,
H.
