| | Pat Martino - F13 Lines Some Pat Martino riffage over F7. Note the common "pet licks" between this and the Multiple Substitutions vid'.

| | You should put these in a book and sell it.
What did he say? "Melodic statements of personal use"
Is that opposed to the melodic statements you'd play for an audience? |

| | The last couple of measures of the second and third phrase do not look like someone thinking Cm. |

| | Taking a quick look this looks like as said Pat's Pet use of chromatics so trying to analyze is a best guess. To me he's just filling in between whole steps and some Bebop dominant chromatics. Could say he's combining Cmi pent and F dom bebop scale.

Note the riff in bars 8 - 10 that is mimicked in 20 - 21. Now look at the "Multiple Substitutions" transcription. The same or similar riff occurs in bar 18, bars 25 - 27, and bars 53 - 54.
Stuff like that. Pet phrases. |

Perhaps, like the rest of us mortals, he's in danger of appearing pompous when attempting to appear erudite. |

| | Nah, introspective people often use eccentric vocabulary and dense logic. Egads, I am starting to sound like that, too. |

| | I remember talking to Pat when I was at GIT and it was always strange. One time I went in to asked about a practice routine, next thing I know he's talking about living with monks and wrapping bread in cellophane and off on something about shovels and planting. Talked to others who've had other bizarre conversations or lessons with Pat. He can get there.
He speaks best with his guitar.

So, when he is buzzing along with these very C min Dor looking lines, and it goes Bb B-nat C, would it be reasonable to call that the Bebop Scale? |

| | Pat is applying the esoteric use of scalar sequential numerology. He layers the tonal melody over combinations of polyphonic dissonant chordal interpretations. The effect is cosmologic.
Translation for the ignorant from Brooklyn: "Play the iim (Cm) over V (F7)".
