Default question... best guitar solos... ballad

I am working a little bit on ballad soloing. trying to get rid of the hack stuff, make it a little more interesting, more expressive.

got any suggestions for listening material? some guitar solos, on ballads, that you like?

thanks. you always have good ideas here.

Jim Hall on any version of "All Across the City" you can find. Really, Jim Hall on any ballad...

One that sticks with me lately is Jonathan Kreisberg's "Night Songs." Really an album full of ballads wih some brilliant playing throughout..."Laura" and "Autumn in New York" are favorite tunes of mine anyway, and JK really does some cool stuff with them...

Man, there's so many...How about Wes doing "Misty" on that extended "Smokin' at the Half Note." Man, that's good!

Glad you mentioned "Autumn in New York". There is a great version on youtube (in 2 parts):

There has been mention on this board of some of the new guys playing "without joy". Just look at JK's face - he just loves playing.

I beleive it was me who made the "no joy" comment, and I never included Kreisberg as one who plays without joy.

If You Could See Me Now - Wes Montgomery - Smokin' At The Half Note. Nothing better. Metheny called it the best recorded jazz guitar solo ever.
