| | Several places. You can get the Aebersold CDs. You can buy Band In A Box. There are other places on the web that also offer backing tracks.
What specifically are you looking for? I could probably whip one off for you. |

| | Peter Vogl has a good jazz/blues play along CD out w/a few tracks on there that are called "static vamps". Major, minor, & dominant. Not a whole Cds worth, though.

| | What you need is 'Band In A Box' software. Google it.
Much more flexible than playalong CDs. |

| | Here are three "discs" on EMusic that are just what you're looking for.
A couple more here.
I haven't heard either one.
I DO use this one and it's not bad. You really learn a tune when you play it in six keys, right? |

| | In addition to Aebersolds and BIAB, which I use quite a bit, no one mentioned using a looper. Boss and Digitech both make very usable looper pedals that allow you to create your own backing track that just loops over and over.
I really like using it for creating one or two chord vamps. Any more than that, and I usually go to BIAB. Good luck |

If you are only using the basic midi tracks through a sound card then yes it sounds crap! Take time to explore the real-tracks and you will eat them there words

| | I made my own when I was a kid, using a tape machine. If I wanted a backing track that was 4 minutes long, I had to get the rhythm part right for 4 whole minutes. At the time I thought that was a real drag (because I kept messing up) but in retrospect, I think it did me a world of good because I turned out to be a pretty okay rhythm player.
I'm on break until school starts up again at the university, so if you'd like me to post some backing tracks on youtube (if that's the easiest format for you) let me know. I already have a youtube channel with some lessons on it and I hope to post more in the next 2 weeks while I've got the time. |

| | That's a pretty interesting offer
Well for me the best format is mp3, but you should post it on youtube anyway, it might bring you some viewers because there's not so much interesting results when you type something like "f major jazz backing track". |

| | Ok, I'll post one that I use with my students that is just a "C" Major 7 chord. That allows students to practice all their chord tones, where ever they need the work, and get the sounds in their ears. I usually have them say the notes out loud too, because I'm mean like that. :-)
Let's think of this as a trial and you folks can offer me some constructive feedback. Obviously, it'd be great to find a way to fund this project, so if you have ideas about that too, I would appreciate it. (I have over 6 hours of jam tracks that I created for my students, but I have not found a good way to publish and earn a little money for all the time and work.)
Here's the Jam Track Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...1BC5022ACCD087
I'll record and upload a track within the hour, hang tight! |
