Default Guild Experts?

During my frequent cruises through the used archtop guitar dealer sites, I came upon this old beauty:

1954 Guild X-150

Several things are noteable on this model; of course the Gibson headstock design jumps right out. The machined (not molded) plastic knobs suggest that the guitar may have been a pre-production model, there's something about the pickup (can't quite put my finger on it) that also suggests this.

It's in great condition and the price is good. Probably won't last long and I thought I'd bring it to the attention of the forum as a rarity. There is some interesting information contained in the description, too.

cheers,
randyc

Hello Randy,

A beauty indeed!

If you haven't known about this forum already, Let's Talk Guild.com, there are people in this group that are far more learned about vintage Guilds than I am: • View forum - Archtops/Hollowbodies

One of the contributors to this forum, Hans Moust has authored an excellent book on the history of Guild Guitars that might have answers:

Alex, thanks again - I've been skimming through past posts on that site this evening. It seems populated, as is this forum, with informative and relaxed people!

I like to think we're relaxed! I believe that the Guild electric archtops attract a mature group - along the same line as this jazz forum. Enjoy!
