Default Presonus TubePRE

Hi all

Just picked up a presonus tube preamp at GC. If you are looking for a way to boost your guitar signal and give the tone some warmth I think this unit is really worth considering!
Here's a link:

That's an interesting product, how is it powered ? They mention 16 volts AC, which is highly unusual. Does it come with a wall transformer that provides the 16 VAC ? (The 16 VAC is then internally converted to a high voltage, I assume ?)

I designed/built one for my uncle six or seven years ago, about the same size as your, my design used a 12AX7 and standard mains power. It included an internal 170 VDC supply. (As we know, vacuum tubes require a high voltage source of DC voltage for proper operation.) The little preamp did a good job when used in front of a solid-state amplifier.

cheers,
randyc

Comes with the dreaded wall wart,Randy.
At least this one is labeled presonus.
Of late I'm finding all kinds of wall warts around the house and I have no idea what gadget it belongs to.Should have started labeling them years ago !

I know, I know. Happily, if you look carefully on the back of those things, they are required to label the DC voltage, maximum current and the polarity of the center conductor.

Regarding the Presonus device, it will have an internal transformer that converts the 16 VAC back up to a higher voltage, then a rectifier to convert back to DC voltage. It's a sensible design from the aspect of safety.

Cheers
RandyC
