| | I'm waiting for one to available in Canada. Actually, I have a spouse issue. We moved 'cross country three years ago, and I was is a "toss it out" frenzy. Yup, I gave my Polytone to Vinnie's, the St Vincent De Paul Society. Told my wife it wasn't worth anything. So if I turn around and buy one now... |

Say maybe one in Southern Ontario? |

| | Polytone overload! Right now there are 8 Polytone amps on eBay, including a 2x12. I'm still waiting to find a 15" in Canada.
edit: including this MB II that's currently $255 and has 90minutes of bidding left! http://cgi.ebay.com/Polytone-Mini-Br...item2ea8831b97
Edit: sold for $430 (19 bids!). That's surprisingly high for a first generation MB II.

| | Boy, you guys in the US are so lucky. These thing sell for twice that on eBay in the UK
A friend of mine picked up a mini-brute for £500 a few months ago, the idiot!
When he got it, it looked like someone had rolled it down a hill. Sounded nice though. |

1. If you can't do it, can you find someone who can? Do you already know an amp technician?
2. Resistance: I know bad things happen if you take an amp that can only down to 8 ohms and you hook it to a 4 ohm speaker, but doing things the other way is safe. Bad things meaning overheating the amp. But whenever someone asks a question about this on TDPRI, answers tend to be prefaced with "according to legend...". As well, I think there's different advice for tube and SS amps. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Polytones used 4ohm speakers, have you checked your Polytone's speaker?
3. watts: there's always the chance you'll blow out a speaker if you overdrive it. But something tells me you're not going to be taking this on your AC/DC cover band gig.
EDIT: most Polytones have an external speaker jack, right? I'd see how it sounded first, before taking it apart!

| | Theres a Polytone megabrute at Lark Street for $450. I don't know much about it. I kept getting errors. The blurb says 8" speaker. A bit small for my taste |

I always found it funny that the MEGA brute had the smallest speakers of the Polytone guitar amps -- 8". Some people like the "honk" they get from the smaller speakers, but I really like the sound of the 15" speaker in a Mini Brute -- warmer.

| | I don't usually list the bass amps, but check out this Polytone 101: a 1x15" and 2x8" bass combo amp: Rare Polytone 101 Jazz Bass Amp! Near Mint - eBay (item 110459607584 end time Nov-29-09 17:00:33 PST)
I guess I'm a sucker for that silly foam and felt covering. What were they thinking? Give a kitten 5 minutes with this amp and it's in tatters. $349.
I bid, $349. This amp really tempted me, but I could only imagine the looks I'd get from my wife, *sigh*.
