| | Bobby Broom's Guitar/Amp Settings So, just got back from seeing Bobby's trio play at the Mill-record release party, celebrating his new Monk tribute album.
Great player, man, always putting the music first before the finger gymnastics. Great feel, too. And Cobbie Watkins is a monster behind the kit.
Anyway, on my way to the bathroom, I took note of Bobby's setup:
Guitar: carved hardwood Hoffner, F-holes plugged.
Amp: Henriksen JazzAmp Convertible
Frequency settings for the Convertible's Head:
100 Hz--dialed all the way down
300 Hz--dialed all the way down
1 KHz--about 2 o'clock
3 KHz--about 2 o'clock
10 KHz--about 2 o'clock
In between sets, I asked Bobby a quick question about his amp settings: he does not use a Tweedy, which is recommended by Mr. Henriksen himself, and his basic understanding of the correlation between frequencies and strings is as follows:
100 Hz Low E string
300 Hz-A string
1 Ktz--D string
other two frequencies: the *rest*, meaning the top 3 strings.
So, yeah, a pretty basic setup. Nothing too fancy. The player? Can't say enough good words about him, what a truly wonderful musician! Their version of *In Walked Bud* just about burned the house down. |

| | NSJ- I moved out of Chicago a couple years ago, and I'm looking to get back over there within the next year. Bobby Broom is such a great player, certainly one of the finest in Chicago. My question for you was about the Green Mill. When I was out there, they were running seven nights a week, with a nice jam on Sundays. I had heard they closed down sometime in 2010? Have they reopened, or do they just do special events? So much history in that place! |

PM me if your interested. | He has two sunburst Jazzicas, and usually plays with the soundhole plug in only one soundhole. Carved top, laminated back/sides, 25 1/2" scale, @16" wide body. The Jazzica is discontinued in any finish.

| | I also play a Jazzica Custom (see my avatar :>). Its a great guitar! The "Diamond" pickup is very clear-sounding. Hofner made Jazzicas until 2009-10, its still possible to find them around. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
