Cobalt strings Hello dudes!
I'm going to switch from flatwound chromes to not even slinky cobalts just to see if they add any color or dimension.
Currently absolutely loving antiquity 2 mini humbucker in neck, seth lover bridge right now, this might be icing on the cake.
Anybody tried these? They're made of a blend of iron and cobalt to achieve more magnetic sensitivity, makes sense as cobalt is a component of alnico(aluminum nickel cobalt). I believe that they haven't done this before because nickel/cobalt tarnishes more quickly than iron cobalt in the right %.
Downsides is that the cobalt is harder than nickel and can be more abrasive on the frets, but bending is scarce in my playing right now and more frequencies to get a round jazz sound might be very nice! |
