I don't think Monk said this.
Nobody really knows, but it was first in print by comedian Martin Mull in 1979.
Which suggests that it is a joke.
But of course, many jokes have SOME truth in them.
It somehow morphed over time into some sort of creed.

I used to say this and believe this but then I started thinking about it...
It is true that there are some aspects of music that are not illuminated by talking about them.
But the opposite is true too IMO (different aspects).
I also think its possible that some hitherto unknown aspect of architecture MAY be brought out by a dancer someday....
It's so much more fun to consider possibilities than to reject them.

"Talking about Monk is like a tree falling in mauve"

Yes, I have been drinking wine tonight.

So ... a) Not really a guitar/amps/gizmos thread and b) talking about music is like talking about any art form.. not bad.. but you really need to experience it to understand it at a higher level

I thought the quote or phrase was "Writing about music..."

Talking about music is probably more like dancing about archeology.

Which is fine. Dig it.

The real question though: Is posting to this forum more like talking or writing?
