Amps what's old is what's new

I don't post a lot, but I thought I would share this. I've been in a bit of a tone slump lately. So, I pulled out my old Peavy Classic 30, which I have never really liked as a "jazz amp". I played aroud with the settings and now I find it to be the tone that I'm looking for. I have been using a Cube 80XL and a Yamaha G100. Both sound great, but I am just blown away with the sound of this amp with floating and set pickups and semi-hollow. I was so inspired that I played all night just to listen to it, it drove my wife crazy.
My point is that, if you're like me and have a bunch of stuff laying around, pull it out and try some new guitar/ amp combos. It's fun how inspiring it can be. So, what's old can indeed be what's new. Have fun!

Do you live alone in the countryside ?
I could never play after 8:30, 9:00 pm in a building with several flats.

Is that amp a tube amp?

Kind of like running into an old friend unexpectantly, and catching up over a good cup of coffee.

Default Peavey Settings

So, what settings did you finally settle on ? I think that's my biggest gripe with solid state amps - -they are not set-it-and-forget-it style.

It is a tube amp. I put the bass at 6, the mid at 8 and the treble at 5. No reverb. Pre up a little and post down a little. I read on this sight about rolling back the volume on the guitar a bit and that has done a lot of good as well. It seems to be a little more..controled..for lack of a better word. These amps are plenty available and not too pricey, $250 to $300ish. I would recommend them as a great all around amp. The only thing that bothers me is a humming when the reverb is on, anyone know what I can do about that? I don't think that it's feedback.

The Peavey Classics are good designs with a so so building quality resulting in quite good affordable amps, specially the clean channel (Nothing too special in the distortion channel).

I see you are dialing your post knob. It's in the channel 2 only. Are you using the second channel for cleans? If you are using the channel 1 that knobs won't do anything.

When I want it with a better clean headroom I replace the first tube for a 12AU7. Just try it. I bet you'd like it.
