Review Hilarious Gibson Citation review

I knew that Gibson had some QC issues lately, even the Custom Shop. I just didn't know it was that bad.

is this a real review ? Seems like an automated computer-generated text based on the 4 people who 'scored' the guitar ? With only a handful of citations around I cannot imagine that 4 different owners paid 15k for one and then went to that obscure website to score 'one and a half stars'.

Of course it isn't real. But it's funny nonetheless.

Those of you who have followed my posts in the past regarding Gibson bashing will recognize that I readily come to Gibson's defense when I feel it is warranted to do so. However, I really am not too put off by this review. First off, did you see the people who have "alledgedly" reviewed the Citations/Citations in question? I believe it said . . hard core rap, country and rock. That should have been shown as a disclaimer. That would be like having Julian Bream assess a 1955 Fender Telecaster.

However, most of what was posted was pretty much accurate, with a few minor inaccuracies which I need not mention. The Citation was created 4 decades (or so) ago, then reintroduced 10 years later and then re -reintroduced as pretty much a high end collectors item, and not as a utilitarian "tool of the trade". The Citation is a wonderful guitar to use occasionally in a very small venue such as solo, duet or small acoustic combo setting. However, it's most appropriate purpose is to sit in a climate controlled case, or on a wall in an appropriate environment so that those who get off on seeing such elegance . . . such as myself . . . will look at it and say . . . oooooooooohhh . . . and then sigh in envy that we don't have a similar one in our collection. I would LOVE to own one of the originals with the varnish finish. Who knows? Maybe eventually I will.

It's a joke that is aimed at online reviews, not Gibson.

I dont think it is a joke - that site has over 6000 guitar reviews. I just think they are not real reviews written by some living person

If you log in, you can click on guitars and give them a rating --> based on the average rating the site will then automatically generate a review using standard sentences (all the reviews are exactly alike). The site also clearly explains this : "Following review text is verbal representation of numerical rating information"

So 4 people went on the site and scored 2 stars for the citation (none of them very likely to be over the age of 16 nor actual Citation owners) , and thus the site has generated a general quote like "Gibson Custom's Citation will serve you until you decide it's time to go for a bit more expensive guitar" LOL

If we all log in today and rate it at 5 stars then tomorrow the same review will read completely different

Let's go to some pointy, shredder guitar and rate it awesome at chord melodies!

Problem is that such guitars will have 4000 reviews already (and as a result probably will be reasonably accurate) - so you cannot really change them anymore.

I would consider this like a form of web-based spam

Perhaps my standard for "hilarious" is a little higher. Judging by the thread title, I wasn't really prepared for such a dull piece of writing. If it's a sendup, it's very weakly done.

Gentlemen, this was neither meant as Gibson bashing nor as something important to write home about. It's nothing more than a quick laugh inbetween. I apologize if I have wasted your time.

I like the idea of rating a shredder guitar though. I'll keep that in mind.

For me, the Citation - and for that matter any guitar in that price range - would be funnier to own than to play.

Humour is subjective but I got where you were going with it..

but Citation will serve you until you decide it's time to go for a bit more expensive guitar.

.. in my mind at least this is one of the most expensive Gib. models.

Hey, Drifter . . . I don't think there's any need for an apology. We've all got plenty of time to waste anyway. Why else would we be here on this forum in the middle of the day (here in the USA)
